Well, the winter weather has moved in to Southern California which has brought both rain and winds gusting in excess of 35 knots. This has prevented me from flying since the 4th of this month and I am so glad that I was able to get back into the sky.
The weather calmed down and though I don’t usually fly on Saturdays, I had an early shift at work that left me with the rest of the day to take advantage of the window of good weather that we were experiencing.
Instead of going back to my usual 172, I decided to go back to the aircraft from lesson #15. I flew the pattern for nearly an hour and a half and did 6 landings. There was a bit of a crosswind that forced me to crab some landings in order to hold the center line. It was a great lesson but it took me a while to get the feel for flying again. I had some sloppy landings to start but progressed with every one. I made it a point to not end my lesson until I had a landing that I could go home happy with.
Ultimately, I made that landing and did some ground work with my instructor. After that I chatted with another student from my flight school that just passed his checkride. I brought up the idea of a trip to Camarillo soon and am hoping we can do that sometime in the near future.
