First off I want to apologize for taking so long to post. I have been working 14 hour days and have had no time to breathe. The good news is it’s time to get back on track and I have had the week off to focus some attention on this site and my lessons.
For lesson 10, I set an appointment with Meiko Powers again and was surprised to find my dad took off early from work to join me on my lesson. This was a big deal for me since he has yet to take part in a lesson and though my family is supportive of my journey towards my private pilot’s license, they are also nervous to the point where they can’t get behind my decision 100%.
As far as my actual training, this was my first review of manuevers with Meiko. We made our right crosswind departure off of 16R as usual and climbed above 3,000 feet after Warner Center (Burbank airspace).
Once above Simi Valley, we practiced some airwork, climbing and decending turns, and steep turns. Meiko had a different method of keeping altitude than I previously trained for and she instructed me to not only adjust the throttle to keep a steady altitude when losing lift during a steep turn, but to give two good cranks of the trim first which actually helped tremendously. Not only did I maintain altitude better this time around but I even was affected by my own wake (which according to the instructors I have flown with is a good indicator that the steep turn was a good one).
After our basic manuevers, Meiko wanted to go over some slow flight with me in order to prepare me for landings. With carb heat off, power nearing idle and flaps fully extended, I practiced maintaining my heading to the best of my abilities.
It was good to get back in the cockpit and everytime I fly is just more motivation to go home and study my course work. I logged another 1 hour and look forward to my next flight.
